Welsh National 2017 (Chepstow)

After being rescheduled the Welsh National finally takes place today in what will be attritional going conditions- nothing new there then for this race.

I’ve always been a fan of the race since I was a young lad when the likes of Corbiere, Burrough Hill Lad, Run And Skip, Stearsby, Playschool and Bonanza Boy were winning it. I vividly remember having a bet on Fiddlers Pike, ridden by Rosemary Henderson, in it too. They were the halcyon days of NH in my eyes.

Silviniaco Conti demolished the field yesterday in the King George VI Chase at Kempton with an  emphatic front running performance. They quite literally couldn’t get near him.

There will be no such speed duels at Chepstow today as the emphasis will be very much on stamina especially in the Welsh Grand National. Have you found a slogger to have on your side yet? Here are a few interesting tweets to give you some pointers.

Today’s Chepstow fancies:

12.25 Chep- Stiletto (e/w).

12.55 Chep- Allez Vic (e/w).

1.25 Chep- Hansupfordetroit & Heronshaw (e/w).

1.55 Chep- Old Guard (e/w).

2.35 Chep- Emperor’s Choice, Edmund Kean & Summery Justice (e/w).

3.10 Chep- Renard (e/w).

3.45 Chep- Bears Rails (e/w).

Got to hand it to him! 😉

Welsh Grand National 2013

sprinterplacelaybarnyandsprinterSo what do Sprinter Sacre & Raymond van Barneveld have in common? Well they both formed part of a bizarre day of punting for myself yesterday.

After achieving my shortest ever place lay (Sprinter Sacre) on Betfair in the twelve years I have held an account I then proceeded to lose the lot on Raymond van Barneveld who lost 4-3 to Mark Webster in the World Darts. “That’s the gamble” as they famously used to utter on the TV game show Bullseye. How very apt! 😀

As you may or may not have read the other day I am completely scaling back my free blogging, a decision I didn’t take lightly. However, my personal circumstances are such that I cannot simply keep devoting the time to doing my blogging just for fun. I need to be involved in something that is going to give me a little bit of something back. I know I am as good as, or better than some of the folks who make some sort of revenue out of tips yet I don’t make a bean or any extra income out of it. But I’ve hit a stage where I need some beans for myself. I’m pretty sure people still don’t quite appreciate what a precarious financial position I find myself in after becoming a full time carer four years ago. It’s dire I tell you.

Today’s Chepstow fancies:

12.30 Chep- Little Jon & Mortlestown (e/w).

1.00 Chep- Hansupfordetroit (win).

1.30 Chep- Lamps & Brackloon High (e/w).

2.00 Chep- Violet Dancer (win).

2.35 Chep- Ace High, Red Rocco & Mountainous (small e/w’s).

3.10 Chep- Coverholder (e/w).

3.45 Chep- Bar A Mine (win).

Grab a grand! 😉

Holding Back the Years

beachChristmas and the holiday period is a good time for reflection I find and that is something I’ve been doing a lot of over the course of the last couple of weeks. I’ve been assessing my personal relationship with social media and have been evaluating it’s role in my day to day life.

When I became a full time carer four years ago social media became a vital part of my life. The sudden lack of daily interaction with one’s working peers was easily filled with online interactions on social media. That void was automatically filled. At one stage I saw a few possible openings and opportunities on the horizon in the social media sphere but they have failed to materialise or have come to nothing.

Recently I have had some discussions with some well respected popular tweeters and they have totally fallen out of love with Twitter due to all the back-biting, character assassination and selfishness on there. The Twitter landscape appears to have totally changed probably in the main due to the infiltration of moronic Facebookers.

Given that good material and work now seems to disappear into an unread void on Twitter when it was previously a good publicity tool I have decided to totally scale back my blogging to a bare minimum in 2014. I shall just be concentrating on feature meetings and the publicity tools that were linked to this blog are now unlinked.

If you can make me an offer I can’t refuse please look me up! 😉 Enjoy the rest of your holidays and see you back here for the Welsh Grand National.

Welsh Grand National 2013

Looking back at this list of previous winners last night I came to the conclusion that my record in this race is pretty poor overall so you might want to take my fancies for the big race with a pinch of salt today. From 1985-89 as a schoolboy I was absolutely bob on but since then, 1997 Earth Summit & 2005 L’Adventure have been my only highlights. Hopefully persistence will pay off today 😀
