Saturday’s ITV4 Races (Jan 8th)

1.30 Wincanton – Kendelu (E/W)

Nigel Hawke’s Kendelu has been as consistent as they come this season and the seven-year-old can put up another bold show on Saturday.

Kendelu found the 3m 1f trip and the heavy going all too much at Huntingdon last time and he ran an uncharacteristically poor race there. Today’s minimum distance looks right up his street and he can be backed each-way with confidence.

Of the others, Mi Laddo looks interesting for Milton Harris as does Midnight Callisto for the Honeyball Team.

1.50 Sandown – Numitor (E/W)

Numitor sluiced up by an impressive 3¾ lengths at Wetherby at the end of October and wasn’t disgraced in a highly competitive Jim Joel Memorial Trophy at Newbury last time. If he runs up to that level again he must have a great chance and takes the eye at odds of 11/2 in our horse racing betting market.

Favourite Gunsight Ridge is proving costly to follow while the veteran Paddy’s Poem is a credible danger to our selection. Another veteran – Bun Doran looks can make the frame again in this company.

2.05 Wincanton – Rikoboy (E/W)

The Dr Richard Newland-trained Rikoboy has been of the track 286 days but the good doctor certainly knows how to ready a horse for its first run of the season.

The six-year-old has just one win to his name from 17 starts but he has placed on seven occasions and it’s a high percentage call that he’ll at least finish in the frame under Charlie Hammond.

Belle De Manech absolutely trotted up at Wincanton on his last outing and has to be given serious consideration too. As does Out On The Tear who was a tidy scorer at Catterick.

2.25 Sandown – Constitution Hall (WIN)

This could well be a walk in the park for Constitution Hill who looks like a novice hurdler with the world at his hooves.

Purchased for £120,000 in May last year he defeated Might I by 14 lengths over course and distance in December.

The Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle doesn’t look particularly strong this year and Nicky Henderson’s charge can take the spoils. Take Datsalrightgino to chase him home in the forecast spot.

2.40 Wincanton – Getalead (E/W)

Trainer Claire Harris and jockey David Prichard aren’t exactly household names and their six-year-old gelding Getalead may well get overlooked slightly in the betting.

The horse has been a revelation for the small outfit this season and there is no reason why he shouldn’t run his race again at a course he clearly enjoys.

At 8/1 in our online betting he is one of the best each-way pokes on the entire Wincanton card.

Earth Business for Team Tizzard can be a player, as can Manvers House at long odds.

3.00 Sandown – Veterans’ Handicap Chase (Runner by runner preview)

Aso – A class act and still rated 149. He warmed up for this finale with an excellent second to Blaklion at Haydock in December.

Sir Ivan – Finished third in this race last season and is generally on the premises in most of his races. He has finished in the top three in just over 50% of his career races.

Wandrin Star – Saw this lad win at Bangor in 2018 and always thought he would go on to bigger and betting things. He bounced back to form here in November with a gutsy win.

Final Nudge – Stays all day and has performed particularly well in the Welsh and Midlands Grand Nationals. Winner of his last race at Warwick where he was sent off the favourite.

The Kings Writ – Hasn’t won now since 2018 and has only ever won at Exeter under rules. Ran well in the Somerset National last year but you will need a leap of faith to back him.

Gwencily Berbas – Has had quite a renaissance in form since joining Pond House from the Eric McNamara stable. Rocked up by a distance at 25/1 at Exeter last time.

Dashing Perk – Was pulled up at Haydock last time behind Blaklion and ended last season falling in the Aintree Foxhunters. Needs a big turnaround in fortune.

Prime Venture – Another runner that was pulled up the Blaklion race at Haydock in December. Last win came in a three runner affair at Sedgefield in 2020.

Rolling Dylan – Enthusiastic sort who has been running consistently well for many a season now. Looks sure to be in the thick of it.

Psychedelic Rock – Was in rude form in the first half of 2021 but all those great runs were on good ground and he was out of his depth in the heavy conditions at Haydock.

Valadom – This loveable grey has been a stable favourite for many a season and he is just an out and out battler. It would come as no surprise to see him in contention at the end.

Indy Five – Fairly lightly raced for a 12-year-old but a winner of four of his twenty starts to date. Runs off a handy weight too.

Dancing Shadow – An Exeter regular who often figures prominently in these staying handicaps. Looks each-way value at the foot of the handicap.

Selections: Aso (NAP) Valadom & Dancing Shadow (each-way alternatives)

3.15 Wincanton – Stolen Silver (NAP)

The seven-year-old Stolen Silver has a great opportunity to get back to winning ways here today under jockey Jack Tudor.

Thankfully there are no Edwardstone types in the field on this occasion and the Sam Thomas-trained gelding can stamp his authority on the race.

Trading at 2/1 in our betting, we make Stolen Silver our 888Sport NAP of the day.

3.35 Sandown – Mack The Man (WIN)

Mack The Man knuckled down well to get the verdict at Exeter back in November and the eight-year-old has had plenty of time to recover.

Plenty of the Rucker-owned horses have been failing to get the business done of late but this is certainly one of their better chances.

Of the others, Navajo Pass is certainly a better horse than he showed on his seasonal bow and he can leave those cobwebs behind now.
