Grand National Trial Day (Haydock)

As an OLBG member I am really excited about them sponsoring the Official Cheltenham Preview once again. They have a great panel this year with John Francome, Fergal O’Brien, Ruby Walsh, Cornelius Lysaght all involved and ITV’s Jeremy Kyle hosting.

If you can’t make to Cheltenham just fire up your laptop or tablet and head to cheltenham.olbg.com  Not only is the event streamed there but you have stats, tips and blogs all about The Festival.

I will be tuning in for great tips and debate about the Festival.

Bryce Bryce Baby

ginacollage

I’m not entirely sure whether Gina Bryce received my card this week but it was easily recognisable I’m sure. Amongst all those hundreds of cards she would have received I needed a card that would instantly stand out don’t you think? 😀

A great day for this blog yesterday as Rigadin De Beauchene (R T Dunne, 16/1) won the Grand National Trial and Bobcatbilly (A P McCoy, 3/1 joint-fav) won later in the afternoon. Friends of mine would have heard me saying I’d also backed “Riggers” at 25/1 midweek so I was over the moon.

Despite the cold and the wet it was a thoroughly enjoyable day of racing at Haydock yesterday afternoon and it was nice to spend it with Twitter racing nuts Adam Webb, Martin Pennington & Susie Cahill. Susie had made the trip over from Ireland especially for the meeting.

Grand National Trial Haydock Park

GrandNatTrial

It’s been a big week of Grand National news with the unveiling of the weights on Tuesday for the 2014 renewal and the National theme continues on Saturday with the Haydock Grand National Trial.

Winners of this race rarely go on to win the Aintree feature in the same season but many of the placers do, notably Neptune Collonges and Mon Mome in recent years.

Haydock fancies:

1.45 Hay- Hawk High (e/w).

2.20 Hay- Celestial Halo (win).

2.55 Hay- Merry King & Rigadin De Beauchene (e/w).

3.30 Hay- Astigos & Quel Elite (e/w).

4.05 Hay- Wuff (e/w).

4.35 Hay- Bobcatbilly (e/w).

5.05 Hay- Always Right (win) & small e/w Radetsky March.

Haydock Hoedown

Not to be confused with the actual Grand National the feature race today at Haydock is the Grand National Chase. If you look back here at a list of former winners of the race there’s certainly lots of my old favourites in there: Previous Winners

Twenty years ago Party Politics won this race a year after landing the Aintree marathon. Do you think any of today’s runners will ever win the Aintree race? The latest 2013 Grand National odds are here for reference: 2013 Grand National Odds

If you didn’t catch Friday evening’s JP Festival TV preview of the upcoming weekend action please find it below (Runtime: 30 mins).

Friday’s blog selections at Fakenham looked like being a complete damp squib until late in the day when things reignited and Edmund Kean (Conor O’farrell, 10/1) & Seedsman (S Twiston-Davies, 15/2) came home first and second and collected the £79.34 CSF I advised readers to perm.
