Last Sunday saw Lucida just touched off in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, but she managed to make us a tiny profit on the day.
Today’s fancy is across the Channel at Longchamp in the Prix de St-Georges Group 3 Stakes. I’m siding with Rae Guest’s Mirza to run another blinder at this track. The gelding is no stranger to winning at the Paris track having won the Prix Du Petite Couvert Stakes twice. The booking of Frankie Dettori is a positive addition too.
0.5 pt e/w Mirza 4.30 Longchamp (7/1 Racebets).
*price correct as of 12.07pm Sunday.
It was a case of the “bloggers curse” or “those famous last words” yesterday at Folkestone as no sooner had I bigged myself up about my record at Folkestone all I could manage was a couple of measly places. That’ll teach me! 😀
As I write this blog the news about Frankie Dettori’s suspension is just filtering through. This from the Daily Telegraph:
The three-times British champion jockey, 41, tested positive for the class A drug following a routine examination at Longchamp on September 16.
Dettori’s suspension runs from November 20 to May 19 and is likely to be reciprocated by racing jurisdictions worldwide, including by the British Horseracing Authority.
Stewart-Moore said in a statement released to Press Association that Dettori “fully accepts” France Galop’s decision to ban him for six months.
“France Galop have today announced their finding Frankie Dettori has committed a breach of their rules relating to prohibited substances,” said Stewart-Moore.
“I have spoken to Frankie since the announcement was made and he has told me he fully accepts France Galop’s decision.
“He also accepts that he has let down the sport he loves and all those associated with it, as well as the wider public.
“But most of all, and this is his greatest regret, he has let down his wife and children.”
The lengthy suspension caps a terrible year for Dettori. He has seen his position as Godolphin’s No1 jockey usurped by understudy Mickael Barzalona and then his contract with Sheikh Mohammed was not renewed after 18 highly-successful years.
Today’s fancies are at Catterick:

3.20 Catt- Foxy Gillian & Executive Benefit (e/w).
*A few issues with WordPress today. The media attachments keep jumping to the top of the post- apologies*
Hoyam (J P Spencer, 3-1 ) & Heeraat (Adam Beschizza, 3-1 fav) rounded off a successful York Ebor meeting for myself and the blog. Winning selections everyday of the meeting is not to be sniffed at so I’m rubbing my chufty badge this morning. Well someone has to 😀
A change of tack this morning from the usual home racing onto a big race over the pond at Saratoga tonight. I’ve been following It’s Tricky and I fancy the horse to get the better of Bill Mott’s Royal Delta and land a four-timer.
Also I suggest a boxed exacta here in the shape of 1-3-4.
It’s Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that’s right on time
It’s Tricky…Tr-tr-tr-tr-tr-tricky (Tr-Tr-Tr-Tricky) Tr-tr-tr! 😉
Fill The Power (H Oliver, 6-4 ) was the lone winner at Hexham yesterday and the nearest I could muster in the Cesarewitch was a fifth place.
But what an absolutely inspired piece of race riding by Frankie Dettori on Never Can Tell (25/1). The race had eluded Frankie all these years and he took the sole decision of ploughing his own lone furrow down the centre of what is probably one of the widest tracks in Europe. The ploy paid off and very befitting Frankie landed his first and only career Cesarewitch.
Today’s fancies are at Ffos Las:
2.20 Ffos- Milly Malone & Court Gamble (e/w).
2.50 Ffos- Milgen Bay (e/w).
3.20 Ffos- Ben Cee Pee M & Tenby Jewel (e/w).
3.50 Ffos- Liberate (win).
4.25 Ffos- Sweet World (e/w).
5.00 Ffos- Manadam & Amazing Valour (e/w).
5.30 Ffos- The Romford Pele & Free Advice (e/w).
Good luck today! 😉
