The Weekend Whisper (Fri 20th March)

weekendwhisper TWW currently stands at -7.65 pts

There were gremlins in the works last night as this post ended up being stuck as a draft and not posting. This morning I discovered the poor little devil was stuck in my dashboard. Oh the joys of technology!

A second place for Raz De Maree (advised at 16/1) in the Midlands Grand National saved last weekend from being a total disaster points wise so that minus figure isn’t quite double figures yet. Next stop zero I hope.

Today’s thoughts…

If the front running Sharney Sike has recovered from last months Eider Chase exertions then there is no reason why the chestnut gelding cannot run another big race. Kelso is usually a pretty difficult course to peg back front runners and I have been impressed with Coltherd’s horse all season. If you’re really adventurous then definitely include Harry The Viking in your forecast permutation.

Later on in the afternoon the George Bewley trained Hunters Belt is worth an each-way interest. This consistent veteran literally does stay longer than the mother-in-law and two previous career wins at Kelso show his liking for this course. Don’t worry if you don’t see him involved in the race early because he finishes off his races strongly. Son Jonathon takes off a useful 5lb off his back.

TWW advises:

0.5 pt e/w Sharney Sike 2.15 Kelso (10/1 Bet365).

0.5 pt e/w Hunters Belt 4.35 Kelso (14/1 888sport).

*prices correct as of 11.35 am Saturday.

Eider Chase Day 2015 (Newcastle)

Friday’s blog brought winners in the shape of Molly’s A Diva (J M Maguire, 11/2), Its A Long Road (Nick Scholfield, 7/2) & Salmanazar (Denis O’Regan, 10/1).

Stamina is the name of the game in today’s feature race and many connections will be relieved the ground isn’t bottomless for a change.

Seems like Padraic is excited!

Today’s Newcastle fancies:

1.50 Newc- Wakanda (win).

2.20 Newc- Dark Dune (e/w).

2.55 Newc- Knockanrawley & Sharney Sike (e/w).

3.30 Newc- Derrintogher Bliss (win).

4.05 Newc- Debdebdeb (win).

4.40 Newc- Swing Hard & Galway Jack (e/w).

5.10 Newc- Big River & Oscar Blue (e/w).

Debdebdebbie Gibson! 😉

The Weekend Whisper (Fri 20th Feb)

TWW currently stands at -6.65 pts

Gas Line Boy gave us a good run last Saturday but unfortunately just finished out of the places in fourth.

My original choice for tomorrow’s Eider Chase was declared a non runner earlier today so it has been back to the drawing board.

Kim Bailey’s Knockanrawley stays longer than the mother-in-law and is by no means a speed merchant. However, when the others have cried enough, which they usually do in this race, this grey gelding will be staying on. He has a tendency to edge left but don’t worry about it. If his last run and win at Newbury are anything to go by it won’t make any difference at the business end.

TWW advises:

1pt e/w Knockanrawley 2.55 Newcastle (12/1 generally)

*price correct as of 8pm Friday

Today’s Eider won’t let you down

I can’t be the only one feeling a sense of unease at the moment with the emerging drugs related stories in racing and I can’t be the only one who thinks that the whole racing world could implode at any moment. There are only so many times such activities can be brushed under the carpet. Lone operators do exist but there appears to be rather too many “loners” being discovered/exposed to deny there is a underlying problem somewhere along the line.

So what are the solutions? Well, if there is a drugs problem in racing people shouldn’t just imply there is but they should set about to prove it. Good investigative journalism is the key. If people are concerned enough about the tarnished reputation of the great sport of racing they should jump off that cozy gravy train and give the lone guy in the boat a hand in rocking it.

Today’s Newcastle fancies:

1.50 Newc- Edmund Kean (win).

2.20 Newc- Kudu Country (e/w).

2.55 Newc- Relax & Presented (e/w).

3.25 Newc- Getabuzz (win).

3.55 Newc- Ride The Range (e/w).

4.30 Newc- Wicklow Lad (e/w).

5.00 Newc- One For Arthur (e/w).

Rolaaaaaand! 😉

Eider Down

Give us a squeeze

Firstly just to let you know that last night went swimmingly well as we won the charity quiz night with a score of 85/100, ten points clear of our nearest rivals. There was a total of 22 teams in all with six players each so we were rather chuffed 😀

No winners to report from yesterday as I didn’t have a single one. Hopefully I’ll do much better at Newcastle today. It doesn’t seem five minutes since we were discussing the controversy surrounding The 2011 Eider Chase and the going conditions that day. I do feel however the incident has left its mark on the race as there aren’t exactly a lot of runners taking part today as in yesteryears.

1.50 Newc- Fill The Power (e/w).

2.20 Newc- My Syntax (e/w).

2.55 Newc- Kent Street & Palawi (e/w).

3.25 Newc- Present M’Lord & Douglas Julian (e/w).

4.00 Newc- Agent Archie (win).

4.35 Newc- Rolecarr (e/w).

5.10 Newc- La Calinda (e/w).

You what?

Hopefully no errors of judgement today! 😉
