On The Beach (Laytown)

laytown

When I first started up this blog back in 2009 this unique beach based fixture in Ireland was one of my very early posts. It’s a meeting that captivates everyone’s imagination and one of these days I hope to attend it in person just to say I’ve been there to witness this racing spectacle.

On the subject of racing spectacles, would you like to come and join a group of us from Twitter at the St Leger? I’ve got a spare county badge I won in The Guardian tipping competition. I’m looking for £25 ( it’s worth £57) to cover my rail fare to Donny. Contact me through this blog or through my Twitter account (click banner details). It would be great to see you.

Whilst I’m plugging a few things I’d really appreciate it if you could follow my alter-ego account @lowerleagueuk on Twitter especially if you like a football bet. On that account I exclusively give out Non-League football fancies. August was a pretty productive month and it’s nice to bring attention to grass roots football.

Speaking of grassroots football, Betbright have now put over £50,000 into a football funding initiative. You can read the full story here and how to apply for help for your local team. (Click on the banner)

Life’s a beach at Laytown

Larks Lad (A P McCoy, 4-1 2nd-fav) was once again a solo winner for the blog yesterday at Uttoxeter. I suppose things could be worse if I got no winners at all.

It’s that time of the year again when this blog traditionally posts selections at Laytown for the annual spectacle of racing on the beach. If you use the search option on my home page you will find I’ve found a few winners at this meeting over the years so long may that continue.

Today’s Laytown fancies:

4.40 Lay- Pivotal Rock (e/w).

5.10 Lay- Parramatta (win).

5.40 Lay- Raise The Rafters (e/w).

6.10 Lay- Solent Ridge (e/w).

6.40 Lay- Enough Is Enough (e/w).

7.10 Lay- Invincible Soul (e/w).

Bringing back fond memories of the British Summer 2012!  😉

On The Beach (Laytown 2011)

Cygnet (Henry Brooke, 7-2 ) and a whole host of second places (+ a non-runner) were the outcome to the afternoon at Uttoxeter yesterday.

Today, as I traditionally do nowadays, is focus on some fancies at the unique meeting which is Laytown. The meeting was first recorded in 1868 and has been a highlight of the Meath sporting calender ever since.

4.45 Lay- Quai Du Roy & Bank On Black (e/w).

5.20 Lay- Hot Sand (e/w).

5.50 Lay- Lombrici (e/w).

6.20 Lay- Livaleo (e/w).

6.50 Lay- Rigid Rock & Withnail (e/w).

7.20 Lay- Eur Elusive (e/w).

Ahhhh, memories of perfect holidays rekindled! 😉

Sedgefield Sedatives

How the mighty have fallen was the theme to come from last nights football. Torino, one time Italian greats were downed in Serie B and Liverpool were squashed away at Manchester City.

Today’s fancies are from Sedgefield were the going could be anywhere from soft to heavy with the volume of rain we’ve had this morning.

2.15 Sedge- Call Me Mulligan & Knar Mardy (e/w).

2.45 Sedge- Troodos Jet (e/w).

3.15 Sedge- Sadler’s Star & Train Spotter (e/w).

3.45 Sedge- Sir Bumble (e/w).

4.15 Sedge- Harcas & Bari Bay (e/w).

4.45 Sedge- Auberge (e/w).

Good luck and keep dry 😉

Perth Proposals

A great pick up on Djokovic yesterday as everything went to plan but the Tsonga prediction was so near yet so far. At one stage when Tsonga was 1-0 up and 5-4 in the tiebreak we were just two points away from not being able to lose on the set betting…then it went pear shaped.

In the ladies tennis today I’d love to see the two “underdogs” make their way to the final but they are both too risky a bet and look highly unlikely winners. However, I will be rooting for them big style.

Today’s selections are from PERTH:

2.20 Perth- Wind Shuffle & What A Riddle (e/w).

2.50 Perth- Auberge & Solway Minstrel (e/w).

3.20 Perth- Ash High (e/w).

3.50 Perth- Del Rio (e/w).

4.20 Perth- Quito Du Tresor & Stagecoach Amber (e/w).

4.50 Perth- Pugnacity & Pay On (e/w).

5.20 Perth- Esporao (win).

Auberge! 😉
