ITV Racing Tips (Sat 17th July 2021)

Today’s ITV Racing tips:

1.50 Newbury – Solid Stone (E/W)

This Listed Steventon Stakes over 1m2f can go the way of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Solid Stone under jockey Richard Kingscote.

Well fancied in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot, the five-year-old finished 2½ lengths third to Juan Elcano and lines up here off an official rating of 113. He’s clearly one of the class acts in the field and I cannot see him finishing out of the top three today.

At 5/1 in our 888sport horse racing betting, he’s an each-way play to nothing.

2.05 Market Rasen – Mrs Hyde (E/W)

The Brian Ellison-trained Mrs Hyde was as a game as pebble last season and will not want for fitness in this, having had two fairly recent runs on the flat.

The eight-year-old mare accounted for Verdana Blue in the Listed Mares’ Hurdle at Wetherby last October and that form is some of the strongest on show in this line up. Trading at around 12/1 in the betting, she looks too big an each-way price to ignore.

Of the others Hooper and Ingelby Hollow have to be respected.

2.25 Newbury – Withhold (E/W)

Roger Charlton’s Withhold is somewhat of a standing dish in these staying races and the course and distance winner can serve it up to them once again on Saturday.

A former winner of both the Cesarewitch and Northumberland Plate, the eight-year-old should give punters a good run for their money at odds of around 7/1.

2.40 Market Rasen – Captain Tom Cat (NAP)

Having been in attendance for Captain Tom Cat’s emphatic chase debut at Aintree on the 14th May, I was well aware from the post-race interview that this Summer Plate was on Dr Newland’s, and the owner’s, agenda and wish list.

Two polished victories later and the six-year-old has arrived at his intended target. For all those reasons, I make Captain Tom Cat our 888sport NAP of the day, and I advise taking the 5/1 in our online betting.

3.00 Newbury – King’s Lynn (WIN)

Royal runner King’s Lynn can return to the winner’s enclosure on Saturday afternoon and put a smile on Her Majesty’s face.

Narrowly beaten in the Wokingham, this looks like a great opportunity for Andrew Balding’s four-year-old to bounce back to winning wins.

3.10 Market Rasen – Byron Flyer (E/W)

The Ian Williams-trained veteran Byron Flyer has been running with credit over both codes of late and can be a major player in this Class 2 hurdle.

With three places on offer, he looks well worth a punt at odds of 7/1.

3.25 Curragh – Snowfall (WIN)

A highly unoriginal selection but the English Oaks winner Snowfall should also add this Irish equivalent to ever expanding portfolio of top grade victories.

Those of you considering the forecast options should write down Divinely in the first instance. I can’t see her finishing 18 lengths adrift of her stablemate on this occasion.

3.40 Newbury – Gubbass (E/W)

The two-year-old colt Gubbass, trained by Richard Hannon Jr, won the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Leicester in good style with this Weatherbys Super Sprint being the target for some time now.

In a race of 22 runners, the 6/1 available on this exciting juvenile looks rather enticing.
