For those considering an outsider in “Whitbread” Gold Cup, the Dermot McLoughlin trained “veteran” VICS CANVAS is no forlorn hope. Veterans have popped up with regularity in this race in the past ten years and Vics Canvas has very similar credentials to the 2010 Irish winner, Church Island. Vics Canvas was caught up in a first fence melee in the recent Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse but prior to that had won the Cork Grand National then ran a close up third in the Paddy Power Chase.
Over at Haydock, David Elsworth’s MASTER OF THE WORLD is an interesting outsider in the 2.20pm race. The race that the grey gelding won under Kieron Fallon at York last August was a competitive affair, especially as Sir Michael Stoute’s Munaaser, was well held in fifth place.
0.5 pt e/w Vics Canvas 3.50 Sandown (16/1 Boylesports).
0.5 pt e/w Master Of The World 2.20 Haydock (14/1 generally).
