Night In Milan ran a fair third last weekend in the Grimthorpe Chase and added the tiniest of profits to my running total. The next race for that horse will be a tilt at the Grand National.
Everyone knows what a fantastic record the Pipe family have in the Imperial Cup and for that very reason I am going to side with both David Pipe runners in the race tomorrow.
The unbeaten Bidourey is quite a generous price tomorrow due to the competitiveness of the race and I half expected him to be trading around the 4/1 mark. Victories at Ffos Las, Fontwell and Leicester were followed by another success three weeks ago over tomorrow’s course and distance. That day he sauntered along to a 15 length victory. Even though this race is much tougher he certainly sets the benchmark for the others.
It may also be worth having a little interest in Pipe’s other runner Heath Hunter. This lightly raced eight-year-old will find conditions much different to when he won at Ffos Las last time out but who would bet against a career best tomorrow from this Pond House raider.
With Bidourey heading towards either the Fred Winter or the Triumph Hurdle after this and Heath Hunter having an entry in the County Hurdle, there is always a chance Pipe could land a gigantic cash bonus for taking the Sandown/Cheltenham double.
1pt e/w Bidourey 3.10 Sandown (15/2, generally).
0.5 pt e/w Heath Hunter 3.10 Sandown, 25/1 generally).
