Dormouse placing at Warwick last weekend pulled the running total back a point so I’m still on course to get the points tally back into the black by the time the Cheltenham Festival comes around.
My first selection on Saturday runs in the opening race at Wincanton, the Bathwick Tyres Salisbury Handicap Hurdle. Proud Times is a horse I’ve backed on several occasions before and Jack Doyle always seems to get a good tune out of the gelding. The horse ran well last time out in the same grade at Taunton and although there are twenty one runners in this race only a handful have a chance in my opinion. I expect to see front running tactics once again with this horse.
Being as I’m at Haydock tomorrow it would be rude not to bring you a selection in the big race itself, the Grand National Trial. In that contest I’m opting for the Philip Hobbs trained Gas Line Boy. This horse won in superb style over the distance in November and was then considered a Welsh Grand National hope. However, the horse could not handle the hike in the weights and the testing going that day and was pulled up. This race is once again within his scope and I expect a bold showing for the Mick Fitzgerald Racing Club members.
