THE months of waiting are over. The anticipation becomes  reality when the starter sends the horses off  for the opening race of the 2014 Coral Scottish Grand National at 2.10pm. And it’s the Easter Holidays, what better way to spend it.

Most of the leading stables throughout the UK and Ireland will have horses running over the two days with trainers including Paul Nicholls, David Pipe, Nicky Henderson and Alan King filling horse boxes full of equine superstars and sending them on the trip north.

Their stable jockeys Daryl Jacob, Tom Scudamore, Barry Geraghty, Robert Thornton and of course the legend that is AP McCoy are all likely to be riding.

There are seven superb races with around £100,000 in prize money and the highlight is the Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase supported by one of our longest standing sponsors and invariably a tremendous event won last year by Bocciani ridden by Tom Scudamore.

Main supporting races this afternoon include The Coral Backing Poppyscotland Mares’ Handicap Hurdle and the Novices Limited Handicap Chase over the minimum distance of two miles.

There is a true sense of occasion at the Festival and even those who are not racing experts love the social aspect of the two days.

After racing on the opening afternoon we have live music from two fabulous bands for three hours.

Dakota play in the Horseshoe Bar bringing their own special touch to classic hits. They always have the dance floor full.

And downstairs in the Ayrshire Suite the party will be in full flow with the high octane music of The Honey Moons, a fabulous live band who will keep the dance floor packed and the crowd entertained with their wide ranging repertoire of tremendous songs.
