Northumberland Plate Festival 2012 (Fri)

You sure do

Sadly today’s racing at Newcastle is called off after yesterday’s apocalyptic scenes in the North East.

Only four races were completed on Thursday however I picked winners in the shape of Jubilee Games (Lee Topliss, 4-1) & Pokfulham (D Tudhope, 6-1 ).

Hopefully I’ll see you back here in the morning with any luck.

P.S Good luck to @chutneydave tonight making his punditry debut on William Hill Radio.

Over to you Ross

Northumberland Plate Festival 2012 (Thurs)

After a well deserved holiday during Royal Ascot week it’s good to be back behind the blogging steering wheel for a look at another feature flat meeting.

I’ll admit I really am yearning the return of the NH Season 2012/13 and resuming blogging every day once again but in the meantime we’ve got a few special flat type race thingies to concentrate on and I do concede some of them are actually quite good 😀

Today’s Newcastle fancies:

2.00 Newc- Jubilee Games (win).

2.30 Newc- Angels Calling (e/w).

3.00 Newc- Extraterrestrial & Dubai Dynamo (e/w).

3.30 Newc- Pokfulham (e/w).

4.00 Newc- The Ducking Stool (e/w).

4.30 Newc- Watts Up Son (e/w).

Hoping these picks are out of this world! 😉

Strive to be the best

‘It does not matter what you are going to do, always strive to be the best. That is what this yard is all about’ (C.Gillies)

Tragic news this morning came through on the sad passing away of National Hunt jockey Campbell Gillies at the mere age of 21.

On occasions like this the hurt and loss can be overwhelming but one should always try and draw comfort and strength from celebrating someone’s life, remembering their achievements and the way in which they enriched ours lives either directly or indirectly.

My fondest moment was Campbell’s superb ride on Culcabock at Aintree in 2009 in the conditionals/amateurs Handicap Hurdle  Link to result

That day I shed tears of joy after an emphatic and profitable win, today we shed tears of a different kind as we reflect.

CULCABOCK and Campbell Gillies win at Aintree 4/4/09

Mulldog – The Message

Don’t push me ‘cuz I’m close to the edge
I’m trying not to lose my head
Uh huh ha ha ha
It’s like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin’ under

It was a 100% record yesterday on the Euro 2012 opening matches and I initially intended to post up fancies for every single match throughout the tournament however after analysing the stats and monitoring the lack of feedback on social media it seems quite frankly a waste of time to pursue such a project on the Euro’s here on the blog.

One way traffic.

Good luck with your picks today! 😉

Investec Derby Festival 2012 (Derby Day) + Cartmel

Some diamond selections came your way yesterday from Epsom as I advised three winners on the card. Clinical (Luke Morris, 7-1 ), Highland Knight (David Probert, 13-2 2nd-fav) & Producer (R Hughes, 2-1 fav).

With Twitter and other social media outlets saturated these days with people clambering for the limelight with their “look at me, I’m the best tipster on here” philosophy the true fans and knowledgeable people often get overlooked as the five minute “boomers” take over all the headline space.

This is pretty much why I’ve put this blog on simmer over the summer months as I’m slightly miffed at what little attention you get for the nicely priced fancies that come in and I start thinking to myself is it really worth sharing? If people want to follow the guys who post up a personal selection five minutes before the race on Twitter and don’t even have a blog well that’s their prerogative I guess. I’d rather follow the guy or girl who posts up their fancies five hours before the race on a website I can return to at any point in the day.

Today’s fancies are at Epsom & Cartmel:

1.35 Epsom- Grandeur (e/w).

2.05 Epsom- Liber (e/w).

2.40 Epsom- St Nicholas Abbey (win).

3.15 Epsom- Confessional & Captain Dunne (e/w).

4.00 Epsom- Comb F/C- Camelot, Astrology & Main Sequence (6 bets).

4.50 Epsom- A Boy Named Suzi (e/w).

5.25 Epsom- Baby Strange & Piscean (e/w).

….take some tea & biscuits

6.15 Cart- An Capall Mor (win).

6.45 Cart- Folie A Deux (e/w).

7.15 Cart- Shulmin & Panthers Run (e/w).

7.45 Cart- Shadow Boxer (e/w).

8.20 Cart- Kai Broon (e/w).

8.50 Cart- Maybe I Won’t (e/w).

9.20 Cart- Front Rank & Claude Carter (e/w).

Where’s Olive?

Have a right Royal knees-up today! 😉

Galanolefki- it’s all Greek to me (Euro 2012)

It’s the opening match of the Euro 2012 Football Championships this evening and I seriously think the Polish are underpriced and the Greeks overpriced here. The Greeks have had a superb qualification campaign and are ranked 15th by Fifa, whereas the Poles are ranked 65th are only in the competition courtesy of being the hosts.

Recommended bet: Greece @ 4.5  *with a saving stake on the Draw @ 3.3

In the second game this evening favourite backers can get off to winning start with 11/10 (2.56 exchanges) for team Russia. For me the Czech’s are not as formidable as they were in the late 90’s and early 00’s and I think they will struggle tonight against the likes of Pavlyuchenko & Arshavin. For me Baros is a big fish in a small pond at present.

Recommended bet: Russia @ 2.56

Just one horse fancy from me today and it’s for Alfie Flits. This once useful hurdler looks way overpriced for me and if Swinbank can spark up some of it’s old ability after a break it’s certainly worth some win & place interest this afternoon.

Crisis. What crisis?

Hoping for no Eurotrash today! 😉

Investec Derby Festival 2012 (Oaks Day)

It’s the Diamond Jubilee Holiday weekend and what a treat we have in store racing wise. Personally the racing at Cartmel on Saturday and Monday will be of greater interest to me but you can’t ignore the feature flat races even if the owners do.

Today’s Epsom fancies:

1.40 Epsom- Clinical (e/w).

2.15 Epsom- Cry Fury & Rumh (e/w).

2.50 Epsom- St Moritz (e/w).

3.25 Epsom- Norse Blues & Highland Knight (e/w).

4.05 Epsom- Kissed & Kailani (e/w).

4.50 Epsom- Producer (e/w).

5.25 Epsom- My Sharona & Van Ellis (e/w).

Hoping I’ve still got the knack ?!? 😉
